2017 Additions
Held immediately after the Sinquefield Cup, the Saint Louis Rapid and Blitz made its tournament debut in 2017. This $150,000 event featured six of the 2017 GCT full tournament participants (GM's Fabiano Caruana, Sergey Karjakin, Hikaru Nakamura , Viswanathan Anand, Ian Nepomniachtchi, and Levon Aronian). The four wildcard picks featured Legendary World Champion Garry Kasparov, GM Leinier Dominguez, GM David Navara and GM Le Quang Liem.
The fourth leg of the Grand Chess Tour wrapped after 5 days of rapid and blitz play with Levon Aronian dominating the field. He won the tournament with two rounds to spare and three points ahead of his closest rivals, Sergey Karjakin and Hikaru Nakamura. Aronian collected $37,500 and 13 GCT points, moving him to third place in the overall GCT standings.

The Saint Louis Chess Club is a nonprofit organization that has been a partner with the Grand Chess Tour since it's inception in 2015. The World Chess Hall of Fame is a nonprofit museum that celebrates chess through the lens of art, history, and culture. Located directly across the street from the Saint Louis Chess Club the World Chess Hall of Fame's unique venue is a regular host for Grand Chess Tour opening and closing ceremonies.
