Selection Process

The 2016 Grand Chess Tour is a series of four chess tournaments held throughout the year and across the globe. The world’s top-ten ranked players were selected as full 2016 Grand Chess Tour participants. Nine of the top-ten competed in all four tournaments: Rapid and Blitz in Paris and Brussels-Leuven, the Sinquefield Cup and the London Chess Classic. World Champion Magnus Carlsen competed as a wildcard in both the Paris and Brussels-Leuven stops along with additional wildcards Ding Liren, Laurent Fressinet, and Michael Adams.

Tournament Regulations

The 2016 Grand Chess Tour is a series of elite tournaments in which the participating players are eligible to earn Grand Chess Tour Points in accordance with their final rank in each event. At the conclusion of the Tour, the top two players based on the final Grand Tour Point standings shall be awarded Tour Prizes.
